‘Tis the Week Before Christmas, and it occurs to us that local merchants could be a good source for holiday gifts.

For starters, there’s Maya Radocz’s hot shop just off 15th Avenue Northeast at Northeast 89th Street.

She’s been blowing glass right here in Maple Leaf for years. Here’s our piece from 2014.

Dmitri Carter at the Northwest Puppet Center emails:

This Friday (Dec. 18th) at 8 p.m. is a special evening of slapstick comedy!

PUNCH & JUDY, by Professor Peter Allen of Parasol Puppets

Mr. Punch is a classic figure in British puppet theatre and has been waving his slapstick around for centuries. Now is your chance to enjoy a true Punch & Judy show!

See Mr. Punch, his wife Judy, the little dog Toby, Joey the Clown, the Hangman and all the other favorite characters. Professor Peter Allen was born in London and began performing at the age of 8.

One night only for this special performance!

Admission: $5 or $10 (whichever works for you).

Tim Sherman, instructor at Metropolitan Music, located at 8414 5th Ave. N.E., emailed to let us know that holiday gift cards are available for guitar or ukulele classes.

Tim has been teaching students in our community since 1987–almost 30 years of helping children, teens and adults have fun with music. Please contact Tim directly for information about gift cards or to schedule lessons in Maple Leaf. 206-547-1772 or timshermanguitar@msn.com

The Maple Leaf Boy Scout tree lot is open, a little off the beaten path at Northeast 85 Street behind the Rez Tavern. Hours through Dec. 22nd: Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sundays 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday – Fridays 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Who else knows of holiday treats right here in the neighborhood? Please leave them in comments, below.
