Seattle Police say they busted a 41-year-old man Monday night near Northgate Mall in a narcotics operation that involved a police sting.

Officers, posing as potential drug customers, contacted the suspect via telephone and “ordered” an ounce of methamphetamine for $1,100 dollars. A location and time near the Northgate Mall was suggested as a meeting place. The suspect stated that he would be driving a 2003 Mercedes.

As soon as the suspect pulled into the parking lot, arrest team officers pulled in attempting to make a stop and arrest the suspect. The suspect saw the patrol cars come in and attempted to get away by ramming one of the patrol cars. The suspect rammed his Mercedes into the patrol car twice, but was pinned by other cars. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. One officer sustained minor injury when the suspect rammed the car. The patrol car had only front end damage.

The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail for drugs, eluding, and vehicular assault. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s Mercedes. Methamphetamine and over $500 cash was recovered from the car and seized as part of the investigation.

  1. Yes, kudos to our brave men and women in blue, ORDERING drugs and then arresting the seller. Isn’t that entrapment? Guess it doesn’t matter, even if it weren’t legal in this state the police can do whatever they want with impunity. Do you think the K-Mart building would be big enough? Since we’ve allowed them to militarize themselves they need so much more storage.

  2. Brad–are you sure? There’s construction activity at the old dealership NORTH of 130th on the west side of Aurora. Right by the Starbucks. The dealership at the SE corner still appears to be open for business.

The old K-Mart is for lease. Kidder Matthews.

  3. It’s unclear from the article if it was the police or the suspect that suggested the location near Northgate nor if the the suspect lives in our neighborhood. I guess the good part is for all we know they weren’t from our neighborhood and the police lured them here for their sting.

  4. There is an announced location for the new SPD North Precinct, and it is intended to be at 130th and Aurora, but it is planned to be SOUTH of NE 130th, where there used to be a car dealership. Still unclear what might be done with the old K-Mart building.

  5. Thanks to the police who apprehended a criminal, one less bad actor on the streets.

Have they decided where the new north precinct is going to be built?

The old White Front/K Mart on 130th and Aurora is available.

  6. Nan, I have a friend that lives near a stop for the light rail, right now. I saw him over Thanksgiving. He pointed out that there were 2 desperate shootings there, recently. One of the shooters was shot dead by the police.

  7. Let’s hope they had the sense to meet in the yonder area of one of the lots. The location does make one wonder about their strategy plan but we don’t know the details yet.

As for the incidence of crime Rob – there will be no *real* crime until the light rail arrives. Couldn’t help myself 🙂

  8. Is there an address for this? I can’t say I’m happy about a sting with the potential for violence conducted near the Mall. Way too many shoppers around.
