Who wants to start a Maple Leaf moms' group?

I am a new mom living in Maple Leaf (bought our house here in 2009, and had our son 6 10 weeks ago).

I am wondering if any blog readers know of a neighborhood moms group. So far, I’ve found a few “Northeast” Seattle moms groups via Google search, but they either do not include Maple Leaf, or are exclusively for stay/work at home moms while I plan on returning to work.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

We don’t know of a local Maple Leaf moms’ group. Anyone interested can leave comments here, though.

  1. I’ve just moved to the hood and would love to join! I have a 2.5 year old and #2 due in 4 days! I’m on maple leaf moms and that seems a good spot for organizing this’

  2. Hi Ladies. I am also a ML mom who would LOVE to get together with others in our area. I have a 4 year old daughter, 2 year old daughter and 1 year old son. We are the perfect spot for play dates. I’m a stay-at-home mom and love getting to know new people. We’ve been here about 10 months and still haven’t met too many other families. Can’t wait to meet some of you! Maura, I e-mailed you, can’t wait to hear back. I checked out the yahoo group but didn’t see much about play dates. I can always start an e-mail chain or FB group if need be. Just would love to meet more moms and playmates for my little ones :-).

  3. Hello Mapleleaf mamas! If still interested in meeting other families in neighborhood email me directly. We are hosting a MapleLeaf Potluck June 24th. Some families that will go are from Maple Leaf Mom’s yahoo group. We are all just getting to know one another- you are welcome to join. Our munchkin just turned 2. 🙂 ~Maura

  4. I am the moderator for Maple_Leaf_Moms under the yahoo groups. Send me a request. The more members we have, the better our success. It is modeled after Greenlake and NE Seattle Mom’s groups. We hold our FS items to each Sunday.

  5. I am a mom of an almost 4 year old boy and another on the way. I live in Maple Leaf and work and have been looking for the same thing. Would be happy to meet up sometime

  6. Thank you so much to everyone who has responded. I should have mentioned that I do attend a PEPS group (which I love) but we’re fairly spread out, and only one other family is in Maple Leaf. I was looking for a network of moms within walking distance that included some with older babies, so I thought I would try the neighborhood blog (thanks Mike for posting). I will definitely try out the yahoo groups mentioned, and thanks for suggesting Cloud City Cafe – what a great idea. I am very glad we chose Maple Leaf when buying our house!

  7. I believe NE Seattle Moms will let you in their yahoo group if you are in Maple Leaf (they are fairly strict about their boarders – though not as strict as Greenlake Moms who want you to be no more than 2-miles from the lake and require a copy of your utility bill). However, I don’t think it is what you are looking for. It is mostly classifieds from people trying to sell kid gear and such. Definitely call PEPS and join a group, though I think they mostly start when babies are a little younger, but I don’t know if there is a cut off. Though it isn’t necessarily local, you can try Ann Keppler’s classes at Birth & Beyond in Madison Park. People come from all over to talk baby stuff and you can meet some remarkable moms there. I still maintain close friendships with moms I met their 4+ years ago. Another thought: hang out at Cloud City Coffee and strike up a conversation with someone else who has a stroller. You may end up creating your own mom’s group. Good for you for seeking out others, that is what helped me survive motherhood! Congratulations on the birth of your son.

  8. PEPs group all the way. We had 3 of the 8 families in Mapleleaf and all the rest within 1.5 mile radius. All the moms went back to work, so it was a great support network for the return to work issues. Awesome group, although the downside of working moms & dads is that we don’t get together anymore, since everyone is so busy (including having 2nd kids), but did for the first year.

  9. Sign up to join a PEPS group via
    http://www.peps.org/

They will assign you to a group of about 8 families with new babies about the same age. You can specify daytime or evening meetings. The families will all be from fairly nearby, although probably not just Maple Leaf, but it can be wonderful to get to know other parents of babies so close in age to your own.

You can also join the Northeast Seattle Moms group–just say that you live in Ravenna 😉
