It’s almost over.
The bumper crop of paving trucks and “lane closed” signs that prevailed throughout Maple Leaf in recent weeks, perplexing many residents, ends today with a final project just south of Northgate Mall, on Northeast 100th Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues.
By this afternoon the Seattle Department of Transportation will have completed pavement work at 25 locations in Maple Leaf, says spokeswoman Peg Nielsen.
For the most part the work has been “utility cuts:”
A utility cut is when the street is opened up for work on an underground utility such as water, sewage, gas, cable/fiber optics. When the work is done a temporary patch in the street is made and, depending on the contract, either the company, city department, or SDOT will later on do permanent restoration on the location per city standards.
Nielsen says the department is working on more than 2,000 utility cuts all over the city.
