Collect food, not Halloween candy

Here’s a new idea for a spooky season: Trick or Eat.

It’s from the North Helpline food bank, which serves Maple Leaf and Northeast Seattle.

“North Helpline is seeing unprecedented need in our food bank.  In just the final week of August, we served over 1,800 of our neighbors.  Same time last year, we only had 900 people seeking food assistance.

We are really struggling to keep our shelves stocked and we are looking at creative ways to increase food donations.”

We have an alternative idea for Halloween this year since it’s on a Sunday.  Forget about the candy—help collect cans of food for North Helpline Food Bank.  Get some friends together—of any age, pick a neighborhood to cover, and drop off our flier any time before Halloween.  Then all you need to do is go out (hopefully in costume) on Sunday, October 31st between 5 and 8 pm, and pick up the donations.  Deliver them to the food bank before 9 pm, and celebrate with some food, entertainment, and prizes for your efforts.

North Helpline is located at 12736 33rd Ave. N.E., Seattle, 98125, and accepts donations Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Call 206-367-3477 for more information.
