What's Henna Night at The Hive Social Club?

The Hive Social Club, 9220 Roosevelt Way N.E., may be a “party house that specializes in princess parties,” but as owner Melissa Plourd explained in our earlier post about the new Maple Leaf business, “it’s for princesses of all ages.” Which is where its twice-monthly Henna Night fits into the theme, the first of which was on Monday.

Plourd does a good job explaining the process and how to take care of the henna design, which you have to protect from large amounts of water for the first day. But after that, the stain can last an average of one to three weeks.

Here’s what mine looked like at the end of our painting session.

And after all the paint rubbed off the next day, this is the design that remained.

The next Henna Night, which takes place from 6:30-9 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month, is on Oct. 25. Cost is $20, and it includes snacks and tea in addition to the henna design of your choice. For more information, call The Hive at 206-462-1192.
