The state Department of Transportation plans some noisy but necessary work this weekend to the ramps that connect Lake City Way with the Interstate 5 express lanes.
The ramps will be closed both weekends, July 16-19 and 23-26, from 9 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. However, the ramps to and from the mainline of I-5 will remain open.
Crews plan to replace the guardrail to meet new standards and repave the express lane ramps. The work involves scraping off the old pavement and laying down new pavement using shotblasters, loud trucks and other machines, but the loudest part of the work will be done during the day, the agency says.
If it’s still too loud for you, give the DOT a call at 206-440-4699 and somebody will bring you some free, industrial-strength earplugs. That’s also the number to call for more information (ask for Mike), or you can e-mail murphym@wsdot.wa.gov.
