During the month of May, Fine Impressions Gallery is celebrating some of the fellow creatures we share this planet with and how they’re depicted in art.

The monkey shown at left is from the “Natural History of Birds, and other Rare and Undescribed Animals,” published in London in 1758.

From the website:

From the earliest times, humans have been depicting animals in art – think of the stunning power and beauty of the great cave paintings. Images of animals are created for science, for fun, for children, for story-telling, for spiritual powers, or for simply coming face-to-face with these creatures.

The Maple Leaf gallery and print shop, located at 8300 Fifth Ave. N.E., sells antique and contemporary art made using traditional printmaking techniques.
