Officer-involved shooting at Roosevelt NE and NE 100th St.

September 29th, 2015 by Mike

Update from Seattle Police 8:30 a.m.

Detectives are investigating after officers shot a man following a foot pursuit through the Northgate neighborhood this morning.

Witnesses called 911 at 4:45 am Tuesday to report a car prowl in progress, later stating the male suspect had run from the scene. Officers responding to the call spotted the suspect in the area and went to contact him. The suspect ran from officers and at one point brandished a knife. An officer deployed a taser, but this failed to subdue the suspect. One of the officers then fired multiple rounds striking the suspect. Officers immediately called for Seattle Fire Department medics who took the suspect to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Update 7:50 a.m. from KING5:

SPD update officer invoked shooting in Maple Leaf. Car prowl suspect shot and hurt after brief pursuit NE 100th & NE Roosevelt Way live 8:00

Q13 is reporting the man was shot by police after a chase.

At 6:20 a.m. Seattle Fire tweeted:

The incident, reported as “assault with a weapon,” drew six fire trucks at 5:36  a.m. A Maple Leaf Life reader reported hearing gunshots around that time at Northeast 98th and Roosevelt Way Northeast.

Man robbed, pistol whipped after leaving Roosevelt Way convenience store

January 17th, 2015 by Mike

Eugene emails to alert us to this police press release, which came out Friday. Here it is in its entirety:

Officers on Thursday arrested a 19-year-old man suspected of pistol whipping and robbing a victim earlier this month in the Maple Leaf neighborhood. Police are still searching for other men involved in the robbery.

The mugging happened shortly after midnight on January 5th. The 24-year-old victim said he ran into an acquaintance at a convenience store located in the 9100 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast. The suspect invited him to ride in a car with his friends and smoke pot.

After the victim got into the car, they drove around and smoked pot, ending up near Northeast 96th Street and 17th Avenue Northeast. Once they stopped, the driver and two passengers in the backseat (one of whom was the suspect arrested Thursday) got out and reportedly pointed handguns at the victim, ordering him out of the car.

They demanded his money, his cell phone and stole two necklaces around his neck. Then they threw the victim to the ground and pistol whipped and punched him until a passing car scared them away. A witness called 911 to report the beating. The victim was taken to Northwest Hospital for treatment.

The victim was able to identify one of the robbers, the acquaintance, from booking photos. Police tracked the suspect down and arrested him at the Northgate Department of Corrections office. He admitted being present at the robbery but denied participating. After getting a search warrant, police recovered two necklaces at the suspect’s home earlier this week. He was booked into King County Jail on robbery charges.

Just a month after moving into new digs kitty-corner from Cloud City Coffee at 8626 Roosevelt Way N.E., Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center is inviting neighbors to stop by and get a behind-the-scenes look at the veterinary hospital during their Open House and Grand Opening from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27.

October 7th, 2013 by Mike

Controversial, contentious, confusing … maybe traffic calming?

The bike lanes proposed on Roosevelt Avenue Northeast are going in this morning.

Be prepared for a different afternoon commute home.

Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center at new location

September 18th, 2013 by master

Maple Leaf Veterinary Care Center has moved from just outside the official borders of Maple Leaf into the heart of the business district at 8626 Roosevelt Way N.E., kitty corner from Cloud City Coffee.

Previously located at 1421 N.E. 80th St., workers spent the weekend moving into the new location just .6 miles away.

We’re giving them a little more time to settle in, then we should have more information about the new location. In the meantime, they pointed out that their phone number is still the same: (206) 524-2020.

Roosevelt Way closed by motorcycle accident

July 30th, 2013 by Mike

Just before 5 p.m. today a motorcyclist flipped his bike at Northeast 105th Street. The responding emergency vehicles temporarily closed the street.

At about 5:15 p.m. Holly emailed:

Roosevelt Way Northeast is currently blocked off right now due to a recent accident in front of my house. A single motorcyclist apparently flipped his red motorcycle. A bystander said it looked like his breaks locked on him although this is unverified. It looks like no other cars were involved, thankfully! Police, fire dept and medics were all on scene. He seemed to be okay as the medics were not in any rush to take him away in the ambulance.

Little Free Library now open at Early Masters on Roosevelt

July 5th, 2013 by Mike

If that little library looks familiar, it’s because it’s a miniature of the building behind it, which houses the Early Masters art school.

The school, at 8815 Roosevelt Way N.E., has opened the second free take-a-book, leave-a-book library we know of in the neighborhood. (The first is around the corner, at Northeast 88th Street and Eighth Avenue Northeast.)
