July 22nd, 2015 by Mike

Two neighborhood cats disappeared on Sunday.

Xris tells Nextdoor Northgate/Maple Leaf: “Mr. Smudge disappeared Sunday evening from Northeast 80th Street and Fourth Avenue Northeast. He is an indoor cat, shy and a little skittish. My mother in law has dementia and Mr. Smudge is one of the few things she remembers from day to day

“If you see him, call me on 206-255-3665.”

And Michael emails this morning:

“Smokey, a long, lean, older male cat, mostly light gray with white and cream markings and white socks has been missing since Sunday, July 19.

“Last seen in the area of Northeast 107th Street and 14th Avenue Northeast, just north of Thornton Creek. If you’ve seen him, please let us know. Contact: Michael at mmc13@mac.com. Thank you. – Michael McCarthy”

A third cat – Franklin – went missing Monday but was found under a deck by evening.

Storm-tossed pets in Maple Leaf

November 2nd, 2013 by Mike

Today’s storm – see post below – has so far produced at least two reports of stray dogs.

Kristen emails:

I came across this beautiful Golden Retriever named Hansel (based on the tags). Called the number and it went direct to voicemail. Found on the east side of 15th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 92nd Street.

None of the neighbors recognized him. Sound like he may have been running for at least a day.

Would you mind posting in the blog? I’ve attached a picture.

In addition, the note below was posted at the Maple Leaf Dog Oasis.

We think Lucy may be back home, though.

Kristen notes: “The windstorm seems to be blowing a lot of gates open,”

Missing cat Mortimer near N.E. 82nd Street – have you seen him?

July 16th, 2013 by Mike

Jill emails that her 3-year-old daughter is very worried about Mortimer, their cat missing now for more than 24 hours.

“He is one year old, but looks younger because he is quite small. His name is Mortimer and he is all black with a very tiny white patch at his throat. He is extremely friendly.

“We were gone over the weekend when he disappeared. I think it’s possible a friendly family in the area might have taken him in thinking him a stray kitten (or that he’s been accidentally locked in someone’s garage).

Mortimer is micro-chipped, but has lost his collar. He lives on Northeast 82nd Street, between Fifth and Eighth avenues northeast.

“If anyone has seen him in the last day or two, I’d love if they could email or call me –  206-778-5277.”

Have you seen missing Maple Leaf cat Freddy?

November 4th, 2012 by Mike

Update 5:30 p.m.: Freddy is home!

Kasey emails overnight:

Hi Maple Leaf neighbors ~ I am hoping for your help in finding my kitty, Freddy. Freddy was last seen Saturday morning September 15th. He lives near Roosevelt and 96th.

Freddy is very shy and hesitant, so I am hoping for any “sightings” to send me his direction. He is micro chipped. Many of you have already been on the look out and I sure appreciate it, so does Freddy.

Note: We first posted about Freddy in September.

UPDATE: Zeke has been found! Marcotte tells us:

This evening when I got home from work I could hear him mewing loudly when I called him. Somehow he’d gotten himself up on top of a neighbor’s shed and I guess couldn’t figure out how to get down; it was a very steep roof and about 12 feet high. After a dramatic rescue involving my husband’s extension ladder he is now safely at home. He doesn’t seem the least bit chastened or even grateful and probably hasn’t learned anything from the experience!

Missing Rhode Island Red chicken Emma is missing

October 10th, 2011 by Mike

Maureen writes:

“One of our chickens has gone missing from North East 97th Street. Her name is “Emma” and she’s a young Rhode Island Red hen. We have a fenced yard and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of chicken attack so we think she may have flown over the fence. If you could post something to the blog we’d be very, very  appreciative.”
The home is near 8th Avenue Northeast. You can reach Maureen and Khris at 206-526-7103
