Vigil tonight at N. Seattle College for bus victims

September 30th, 2015 by Mike

A vigil to honor the five international students who died in last week’s bus accident on the Aurora bridge will be held at 6 p.m. at North Seattle College.

In a post to the community, college president Warren Brown wrote:

To honor the five students we lost and to support the students and staff still recovering from their injuries following the Aurora Bridge accident, North Seattle College and Student Leadership invite you to a vigil at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The vigil will be held in the North Seattle College courtyard and is open to the community.

The five students were the only deaths from the crash, with a Ride the Ducks vehicle. “Nine patients remained hospitalized Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center, with eight listed in satisfactory, and one in serious condition and in intensive care, a hospital spokeswoman said. Two other patients were in satisfactory condition at UW Medical Center,” according to The Seattle Times.

For more information on what the college is doing to help students and staff this week, and for a fundraiser, go to the president’s message.

Happy Independence Day (plus ducks!)

July 4th, 2014 by Mike

Happy Fourth of July! From Maple Leaf Life (and the Dog Oasis).

Also, earlier this week Bobbi sent us photos and this note:

“Nature in Northgate:

“Hi, I live at Northeast 95th Street and Fifth Avenue Northeast and was walking to the Northgate Transit Center along First Avenue (Wednesday) when I came across this entourage – mother and 10 ducklings.

We helped them cross the street into a drainage pipe by light rail construction so they could walk up to the creek!

“I’m calling this drainage pipe the duck portal. The construction guys said there is also a beaver living by the drainage pipe.”

Who has lost their domestic duck?

November 20th, 2011 by Mike

Janice sent us this photo earlier this morning, along with this note:

“This morning I found a guest in our backyard, a very pretty Cayuga Duck. I thought at first that it was a sick or injured wild duck…it let me walk right up and pick it up with a towel..but after a little Google work and a call to PAWS I am pretty sure it is a healthy domestic duck.

“For the moment it is sleeping on a towel in our bathtub but I am going to return it to our fenced yard in a few minutes. If there is any way that you can post a notice on the neighborhhod blog so that this duck can return home that would be great. For a point of reference we live on Northeast 95th Street just off of 15th Avenue Northeast.
