Crash blocks Interstate 5 at Northgate for miles

Update 3 p.m. All lanes now open, traffic backed up for five miles starts to clear.

Southbound Interstate 5 is backed up for four miles after a crash at Northgate that state troopers say could have involved a suicide attempt.

It blocks the left three lanes of southbound I-5. Traffic is currently backed up for over an hour from Northeast 175th Street in Shoreline.

Overnight crash at 80th and Roosevelt?

Update: Further poking about has produced this: Fire Engine 16 was dispatched to that location at 1:48 a.m. for a motor vehicle accident.

Also produced a house fire in the 7500 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast, a little earlier at 12:41a.m. Luckily, there apparently wasn’t too much damage.

Car ends up below building after dramatic crash on Roosevelt

A dramatic two-car crash closed Roosevelt Way Northeast and brought news helicopters and police and fire units to Maple Leaf shortly before 10:30 this morning.

One SUV ended up in the ditch almost under this building at Roosevelt and Northeast 91st Street.

Thirteen emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene at 10:18 a.m., and another one a minute later.

No serious injuries were reported, although ambulances were at the scene. Buses on Roosevelt were rerouted to stops south of Northeast 80th Street.

A neighbor emailed to say: “Nice pedestrian almost hit, missed him by about a foot.”

Fatal car accident near Northgate Way

Early Sunday morning a man died when the car he was driving hit a tree just east of Maple Leaf, Seattle police say.

The 27-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two male passengers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and a dog in the car was treated by a vet, police said.

The accident occurred about 1:30 a.m. when the driver’s Acura Integra, traveling northbound on 24th Avenue Northeast, failed to make a left curve approaching Northeast Northgate Way, according to police.
