Updates on bus service, Roosevelt Way work

March 9th, 2016 by Mike

Is your bus route changing?

————————————–

Over at Re-think Green, Julia has done a lot of work on the changes coming to our bus service as the University Light Rail station opens later this month.

This post is for my peeps who ride Metro (or may want to ride Metro) in the North part of Northeast Seattle. I’m talking ‘bout Lake City, Olympic Hills, Jackson Park, Pinehurst, Northgate, and Maple Leaf. My hood.

Her specific post is here: Metro Changes: A summary for Northgate & Lake City. (The short take, I think, is that many routes that now go downtown will go instead to the light rail station.)

Meanwhile, the Seattle Bike Blog has reported on the extensive work coming to Roosevelt Way this year from Northeast 65th Street to the University Bridge.

Major work to repave Roosevelt Way and rebuild it with transit, biking and walking improvements starts March 14, SDOT says.

That report is here: Work starts soon on major Roosevelt Way repaving & redesign, will last most of 2016.

Bus route changes coming in the morning

September 27th, 2015 by Mike

The frequency of trips on several popular Maple Leaf commuter and weekend bus routes changes in the morning.

The biggest change here will be to Route 77, which will no longer go through the downtown transit tunnel.

Other changes affect the 73, 41, 66E, 67 and 68 routes.

For Route 77:

Southbound service to downtown Seattle will operate via Convention Place, Union St, 2nd Ave and 2nd Ave Ext S. These routes will serve the bus stops on Convention Place at Union St, on Union St at 6th and 4th avenues, on 2nd Ave at Marion and James streets, and on 2nd Ave Ext S at S Jackson St.

Northbound the bus stops on  4th Ave S at S Jackson (next to Union Station), on 4th Ave at James, Madison and University streets, and on Pike St at 6th Ave.

For more information check Metro’s website here.

Maple Leaf bus routes may again be on chopping block

July 6th, 2013 by Mike

Expect more discussion in coming weeks about cutbacks in Metro service here.

The state Legislature failed to pass a transportation funding package, and also passed on giving voters the ability to raise taxes locally.

When we wrote about this in April, the elimination of the 77EX route to downtown was a possibility, as were reductions in at least six seven other routes – the 41, 67, 66EX, 68, 73 and 373EX. (Thanks, John, for pointing out that the 373, running  down 15th Avenue Northeast to the U District, also faced “reduction or revision.”)

The cuts would take effect in 2014. There is some possibility the Legislature might act on transportation early in the year.

To see a list of threatened routes go here.
