Mega moving sale, plus nighttime I-5 work next week

August 21st, 2015 by Mike

Seattle City Light emails that it is replacing two transmission lines alongside Interstate 5 at Northeast 60th Street next week.

Intermittent rolling slowdowns in both directions on I-5 between Northgate Way and State Route 520 are necessary for motorist and worker safety. Traffic will be escorted through the construction zone.

The two-day project is planned for Thursday, Aug. 27 and Friday, Aug. 28, from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.

A maximum of four rolling slowdowns are necessary with each lasting from 20 to 25 minutes. All on-ramp traffic from Northgate Way through State Route 520 will be held and will merge with the next rolling slowdown. The I-5 express lanes will be closed.

And Megan emails: “I wanted to see if you could post an upcoming moving/rummage sale that will be going on this Saturday – Monday. Here are the details:

Yard sales this Saturday to support children, cats

July 22nd, 2014 by Mike

Saturday brings two yard sales – one here and one nearby – to benefit good causes.

The Friends of Campus Cats Jumble Sale is being held here in Maple Leaf at 10 a.m. on July 26th.

An hour earlier, at 9 a.m., the Seattle Ronald McDonald House will host its second annual Sidewalk Sale in Wedgwood.

The local sale, benefiting cat rescue on the University of Washington campus and several neighborhoods, including Maple Leaf, is at 536 N.E. 100th St. Watch for the signs on Roosevelt Way Northeast.

The organizers are also still looking for donations:

This year’s fabulous Campus Cats Jumble Sale is set for July 26 (final Saturday of the month), right in the heart of lovely Maple Leaf. Come one, come all—even dog lovers are welcome!  We open at 10 a.m., and have a strict no-early-bird, no-whining policy.

All our items are donated goods, and 100% of the proceeds go to Friends of Campus Cats, a charity that manages and rescues (where possible) feral cats on the University of Washington campus and various neighborhoods around the city.

We are still gratefully accepting donations (which are tax-deductible, by the way, as we are a 501(c)(3) organization). We accept books, CDs, DVDs, knick-knacks, collectibles, kitchenware, crafts and hobby supplies, small appliances, jewelry and the like. The more, the better, for both your tax return and for our fuzzy charges. We will gladly pick up if you are unable to deliver, so please call or email to make arrangements.

Also needed are volunteers to help on the day of the sale. Again, please email or call for details.

Contact Sharon Talbert, 206-442-2051 (voicemail) or friendsofcampuscats@gmail.com

The other sale, “featuring 10,00s of items donated by local businesses including Chef’n, Compendium, Kid’s Club, Super Jock ‘N Jill and more,” takes place in front of the Ronald McDonald House, 5130 40th Ave. N.E.

Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Western Washington & Alaska supports seriously ill children and their families. At the Seattle Ronald McDonald House, we provide a “home-away-from-home” to help families through a difficult time. We also provide a van service for families staying in Anchorage while their children receive medical care.

4 yard sales for a cause this weekend

September 12th, 2012 by master

It’s going to be a good weekend to go yard sale hopping, with weather predicted in the mid-60s to low 70s Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

And a few of your neighbors are hoping you will do just that. Betty emailed us to let us know about four individual sales from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on the 500 block of Northeast 92nd Street (between Fifth and Eighth avenues northeast, but you cannot enter off of Fifth). Best part besides the weather is: They’re for a good cause.

Here are the addresses and a few details about what’s for sale:

  • 538 NE 92nd: ’70, ’80s rock memorabilia, including NIRVANA, Princess Diana magazines, clothes, some electronics, a big old Tapestry rug and a few children’s items. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Teen Feed, which works with homeless youth and is based in the University District.
  • 536 NE 92nd St: earrings, greeting cards, several vintage clothing, French postcards bought by a U.S. soldier during WWII, misc. Proceeds go to University Methodist Temple to buy purchase backpacks, new underwear and socks for homeless people using their services and to the ROOTS program that is headquartered there.
  • 532 NE 92nd: Moving sale – piano, sofa, wood stove, and misc. household items. A percentage of the proceeds also will benefit Teen Feed.
  • 9126 – 5th NE (but enter from NE 92nd):  misc. from 5-6 families to benefit Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership, a youth leadership development organization that provides youth with leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences.

Community yard sales need your trash/treasures!

July 31st, 2012 by master

With prime yard sale season in full swing, both the Northgate Community Center and the Eagles Mother Aerie No. 1 have planned community garage sales that are in need of your “trash,” otherwise known as somebody else’s treasure.

On Friday, Aug. 3, you can rent a table for $20 to sell your goods from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Yard Sale at Northgate Community Center, 10510 Fifth Ave. N.E. For more information, contact the center at 206-386-4283.

And the following weekend, on Aug. 11, the Eagles order at 8201 Lake City Way N.E. is bringing back the community-wide Maple Leaf Garage Sale. President Dan Kerege is hoping households throughout the neighborhood will participate as they have in past years, but the Eagles also will have its own garage sale that day that will be open to sellers who don’t have the space for their own garage sale.

You can either rent a table for $15, or donate items to the Eagles to add to their own sale. For more information, contact Faye at 206-762-5125.

If you would like to join the community-wide garage sale, email tips@mapleleaflife.com and we’ll add you to the list:

  • 9101 Roosevelt Way N.E.: “We are in the process of moving from a three bedroom house to a boat, so there will be MANY items for sale.”
  • Block-long sale on 14th Ave. N.E. between 82nd and 85th will include the home numbers 8232, 8228 and 8224
  • 1219 N.E. 96th St.
  • 814 NE 80th Stree (starting at 9:30 a.m.)

Soak in the sun at a group yard sale on Saturday

May 20th, 2011 by master

The sun is shining and Memorial Day is right around the corner, which means it’s once again yard sale season. And already, there’s a big one planned this weekend.

Maple Leaf resident Karen let us know about a coordinated yard sale that starts at 9 a.m. Saturday on Northeast 98th and 100th streets between Eighth Avenue Northeast and Roosevelt Way Northeast:

“We are going to be selling furniture, kid’s stuff, and other useful items on Saturday, May 21.  Well-placed signs on Roosevelt, 8th and 5th will guide you along to the houses participating.”

Are there any other big yard sales in Maple Leaf planned this weekend?
