On Christmas Day one of the ponds in Maple Leaf Reservoir Park hosted a Mallard. (We saw one on Easter this year, too. It’s on the park bird list.) Earlier this fall, just at dusk, we saw a shorebird in this same pond, which we’ve listed as a Dunlin.

Power is back for Christmas! Update 5 p.m.: These folks are still without power, five hours now. Power is out (noon-thirty today) along portions of Roosevelt Way Northeast from about Northeast 102nd Street to Northeast Northgate Way. About 70 neighbors are affected, according to Seattle City Light. Cause: “Investigating. Equip Fail.”
