Applications for the Neighborhood Matching Fund Small and Simple grant program are due by 5 p.m. July 12 – that’s three weeks away. What in Maple Leaf could use funding?
No projects in Maple Leaf made last year’s list. The closest is $10,420 for a playground in Laurelhurst.
Under the program, which first started in 1988, award recipients will receive up to $20,000 for their projects. Each award is matched by the communities’ volunteer labor, donated materials, donated professional services or cash. To be eligible, an entrant must prove that their project will improve their neighborhood and community.

Renee sends us this: Friends of Jackson Park Trail received a $15,000 Small and Simple grant in April 2009 to design a ring trail around Jackson Park Golf Course (just north of Maple Leaf). Community meetings will be held this summer to develop the design and all are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Lots of folks at last week’s meeting on the new Maple Leaf Reservoir Park would like some funds to build a skate park.
