A reminder to clear our your cars at night

Sarah warns us about a car prowler in Maple Leaf on Tuesday night:

Quick heads up: someone went through our prius (we’re on NE 90th, between 12th and 15th) tonight. My husband took the compost out at 11pm and found the light left on inside the car (parked in our driveway). No damage, nothing taken – we leave the car unlocked and with no valuables inside to steal – but someone definitely went through it after dark tonight.

  1. We had our car prowled on 5th Ave and 86th St. NE. about a week ago. I came out to my car in the morning, realizing I hadn’t locked my doors. As I opened my door, I saw a MP3 plug-in receiver for a car, laying across my seat. I then looked around and realized the only thing taken was my cigarettes and lighter. These were the only worthy items in the car besides an ice scrapper.

  2. We have two cars at our house in Northgate. She locked her car, I left mine unlocked. Her window was broken and rummaged through, mine was simply rummaged through with only random loose change taken. I’d prefer not having my windows broken… so yeah. Of course I’d also prefer to catch the prick who is doing this………

  3. Are you kidding me?! You just posted on the internet that you leave your car unlocked and where you park it? While you’re at, let us know where you keep your spare house key. Readers may want to swing by walk through your house for kicks too.

  4. Yes, you would think locked doors would stop theft. It does not. A year ago, a good friend was staying at my house and her van was broken into. Her driver’s side window was smashed. Personal and important papers taken along with a tote bag. So, you see, locking may deter, but it doesn’t guarantee.

  5. Cameras do pretty much nothing to deter theft, and even when they catch someone, it’s often impossible to identify the theif.

What we need is more people to lock their cars. Can’t believe anyone still leaves their car unlocked.
