High winds to blow through this afternoon

UPDATE 6:45 p.m.: Winds still gusty (currently around 20 mph in Maple Leaf) but not nearly so dramatic. Maybe I’ll go put the portable greenhouse back on its feet. Weather service reports:

WINDS ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA WILL SLOWLY EASE OVERNIGHT AND MOST OR ALL
WIND WARNINGS/ADVISORY WILL LIKELY END BY LATER THIS EVENING.

UPDATE 4 p.m.: The National Weather Service has extended the wind advisory to 9 p.m. Winds at Maple Leaf Life now gusting to 26 mph, down a bit from a maximum so far of 33.1 mph just before 2 p.m. Power elsewhere has been restored in Burien and and the San Juans.

UPDATE: Power has been restored to Lake Forest Park. Seattle City Light has 14 crews standing by for expected outages later today.

The National Weather Service has posted a wind advisory for gusts over 40 mph until 6 p.m. today, and warns to expect power outages.

In fact, to our north Lake Forest Park currently has about 2,900 customers without power thanks to winds that sent a tree into power lines. That outage starts about Northeast 148th Street, according to Seattle City Light.

The weather service talks about trees:

THE STRONG WINDS COULD RESULT IN SOME POWER OUTAGES ACROSS
  PORTIONS OF WESTERN WASHINGTON THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING DUE
  TO POWER LINES BEING DAMAGED BY TREE LIMBS. SOME OF THE
  REGION'S TREES HAVE BEGUN TO LEAF OUT ALREADY...WHICH COULD ADD
  TO THE POTENTIAL FOR WIND DAMAGE TO OCCUR. RAIN-SOAKED GROUND
  COULD ALLOW TREES TO EASILY TOPPLE OR BECOME UPROOTED.
