From our news partners at My Green Lake:
Green Lake’s Pathway of Lights is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. But it’s been cut from next year’s budget.
From the Seattle Parks and Recreation North Central Fall 2010 catalog [pdf]:
Come join others, rain or shine, in a “walk of lights” around the lake and take in the warm glow of luminarias that line Green Lake’s pathway. Listen to holiday music at the Community Center, Aqua Theater, and Seattle Public Theater.
The Pathway of Lights at Green Lake is sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Green Lake Community Center Advisory Council.
On Sept. 27, Mayor Mike McGinn presented his budget recommendations to Seattle City Council. McGinn proposed that, beginning in January 2011, the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr. N.) operate under “Limited-Use Status” with reduced operating hours and staff. Due to these reductions, seasonal special events, including the Pathway of Lights, will be canceled in 2011, unless Parks can find sponsors to help produce them.
City Council will discuss and vote on options between Oct. 28 and Nov. 12. You can meet with Councilmember Tom Rasmussen at an informal community discussion this Saturday (Oct. 16), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Green Lake Branch of The Seattle Public Library (7364 E Green Lake Dr. N.).
