The Northgate, Meadowbrook and Ravenna-Eckstein community centers will hold all-day camps for school-age kids if Seattle teachers strike next week.
The three locations in northeast Seattle are among 16 throughout the city that will stay open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 9-11 in the event of a strike.
The Northgate Center, the only one in Maple Leaf proper, is at 10510 Fifth Ave. N.E.
There will be no costs to parents.
Details from Seattle Mayor Ed Murray are here.
Additionally, all locations of The Seattle Public Library are open regular hours and Library staff members are ready to support students and families with resources and programs. Visit spl.org or call 206-386-4636 to find out the nearest library, the hours of operation and scheduled programs.
Our news partner The Seattle Times has a story, complete with illuminating comments, here.
From the ST article noted above, my asterisks:
“The camps will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 16 community centers around the city, says a news release. They’re available for 5-to-12-year-old kids *Already Enrolled* in Parks and Recreation before-and-after-school programs, and will run “at no additional cost to families,” says the release.”
