The lights have been out for more than a week at La Bera Cafe, 1000 N.E. Northgate Way, and we thought we’d turn to our readers to find out if you know what is going on at the cafe.
Signs on the door say “Temporary Closure Reopening Soon” and “Closed will reopen in several weeks,” but Maple Leaf Community Council President Marc Phillips told us he has seen lights on and people in the restaurant at times since the signs went up. And let’s not forget that we saw similar signs at predecessor Seattle Crab Co. before La Bera took over the space in July.
You, our observant readers, helped us figure out that A New York Pizza Place appears to be closed, although we have yet to confirm that with an owner or other employee of the restaurant at 8310 Fifth Ave. N.E. Does anybody know when — or if — La Bera will open again?
The lights have been on and off for a while now. its a shame, the product was very good and they started well, but then the format kept changing and the hostess was less than professional. Elder patrons complained quite a bit about the lack of lighting in the bathrooms and other guests felt “hounded” to sit down when they simply came in for a cup of something to go. I visited 6 times, with various friends and my husband, before giving up. Food was good, but the front of house was strangely stressful.
