Shortly after midnight Sunday a vehicle being chased by police flipped on Northeast 75th Street after striking a streetlight pole. The driver was rushed to the hospital, officers said.
Police said the incident began with a pursuit southbound on Interstate 5 by Mountlake Terrace officers. When the vehicle they were chasing exited I-5 and continued south on Banner Way Northeast, it broadsided the guardrail at Eighth Avenue Northeast and then struck the light pole, ending upside down in the 600 block of Northeast 75th Street.
The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene with 14 trucks and medic units, and transported the male driver to Harborview Medical Center, with serious injuries.
Did I read that correctly? 14 (one four) vehicles to respond to one cretin? Surely one hearse supplied by Evergreen Washelli would have sufficed…
Maple Leaf’s southern border touches 75th, but the precise location of the incident is just outside Maple Leaf’s official boundaries.
Doesn’t mean it isn’t newsworthy, though.

I live nearby and know that corner well… we call it, “where two lanes become one”, in humorous reference to the abruptness of the the merge at the corner. Honking is frequentl as eastbound folks (who just waited through the nasty 5-way stop) floor it at the sight of open road ahead, only to slam on their brakes and cut-in as they approach that corner… motorcycles especially!
The 600 block of NE 75th is not in Maple Leaf according to this website’s definition of Maple Leaf, which is north of NE 80th Street. I believe this location to actually be in the Roosevelt Neighborhood.
