On Saturday morning Lesley Jacobs set out to bike 100 miles without leaving her front yard.
Jacobs, who lives just on the other side of Lake City Way from Maple Leaf, volunteers for Lance Armstrong’s LiveStrong Challenge Seattle, as does her partner, Ken Yu. The actual challenge takes place here on June 19, and includes bike rides from 10 to 100 miles. “Ken and I volunteer at the Seattle LiveStrong event, so we don’t ride it,” said Jacobs, a graphic designer and veteran cyclist. “I figure I’ll do my ride tomorrow to make up for it,” she wrote in an e-mail on Friday.
By spinning 100 miles in place, Jacobs also qualifies for a more limited event: The “Third Annual 100 Miles of Nowhere.”
Her goal is to raise $3,000 for the Seattle challenge. On Saturday morning she was at $2,305. You can see her progress, or contribute, at her LiveStrong Challenge Page, here.
Maple Leaf resident Anthony Bolante, who lives near Olympia View Elementary School, will be riding the actual Seattle challenge. His fundraising page is here.
Thanks for the nice write up and thanks to our great neighbors and friends for keeping me company and entertained while I rode today. It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny, and what a pleasure to be able to do some fundraising for the LiveStrong organization. I am one happy cyclist!
Wow! Thank you so much for the support of my LIVESTRONG-Seattle (100 miles, 20 June 2010) ride, Mike! What a pleasant surprise! Thank you. I am “almost” at my $1,000 fundraising goal and thanks for sharing my LIVESTRONG website with all of our Maple Leaf neighbors! Mahalo to Mike/Caroline and you fellow Maple Leaf neighbors who contribute to my ride. Thanks a ton! Anthony (Maple Leaf bikee fundraising against cancer!)
