The fire that consumed a small house just outside of Maple Leaf on Thursday morning was started accidentally, the Seattle Fire Department has determined.
The house, at 8540 23rd Ave. N.E., is believed to have been unoccupied, but neighbors said transients had been seen there. A sign in the driveway asked people to stay away from the house.
The fire was started by “improperly discarded smoking materials,” the Fire Department said. Damage was estimated at $40,000.
