Five men who attacked and hospitalized a motorist might have picked the wrong victim, seattlecrime.com is reporting.

The assault occurred a little before 1 a.m. on March 2 in the 14300 block of Stone Avenue North, which is northwest of Maple Leaf. Police say the five men got out of another car and began smashing the victim’s windshield, headlights and window, possibly using a piece of metal rebar, before hitting the motorist in the head.

Citing a new police report, seattlecrime.com indicates a neighbor told officials he “believes the assault was a case of mistaken identity.” Another neighbor said drugs were probably involved.
