A couple of dozen free tomato starts are being given away this afternoon at the Dog Oasis (corner of 12th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 89th Street). Actually, a dozen of them are already gone. They were grown by Caroline Ullmann, owner of the Dog Oasis and, not co-incidentally, the wife of Maple Leaf Life’s co-editor.

“Summer” arrived this afternoon, and not just temporarily. By Saturday it should be in the mid-70s in Maple Leaf, ideal for enjoying the activities we’ve posted for the weekend. It cools down a bit after that, but there’s no rain in sight through next week (OK, maybe a little on Tuesday). But by weeks’ end
