It was supposed to stay closed until 5 p.m. today, but the bridge on 15th Avenue Northeast over Thornton Creek is open for business.

One reader reports: “Went by around 8 and it was open!”

At 10 a.m. crews were still on a side street loading barricades into trucks, but traffic was moving smoothly across the span.

  1. Each lane is indeed 1 foot narrower, so they could put the sidewalk railings in. Sort of takes the thrill out of walking across the old bridge.

And it’s not the Metro drivers I usually worry about.

  2. I’m ambivalent. It’ll sure be easier to get to QFC & points north on 15th. But I have been enjoying the almost-deserted nature of 15th the past year. Easy to cross both on foot and by car. By 5 pm traffic had really picked back up. It’ll be worth it though to get back the convenience.

  3. No ribbon cutting? Alas, a minor public ceremony would have been appropriate. However, yay! Let public enthusiasm flow!
