More information has become available on two recent robberies by Northgate Mall.

One, reported last Thursday afternoon, Dec. 30, started as a shoplifting incident in the 300 block of Northeast Northgate Way.

Security officials at the store told police they “were ‘working the floor’ when they observed an unknown W/M wearing a ‘black pea coat and olive pants’ concealing various household items into a rolling piece of luggage and putting items into a shopping cart.”

When the security guards followed the man outside, he brandished a knife and swore at them, then ran off with the guards in pursuit, according to police.

They lost him in a nearby apartment complex, and no suspects have been arrested.

The other robbery occurred New Year’s Day in the 400 block of Northeast Northgate Way. Police were originally stopped by a father, who said his son’s friend had been assaulted.

The friend told police they were leaving the mall about 5:30 p.m. when a group of three males began shoving and hitting them and stole his iPod Nano and hat.
