Northwest Hospital (1550 N. 115th St.) is showing off its new, multi-million dollar upgrade to the surgical facilities during a public open house on Saturday.
The two-year, $27.8 million upgrade includes new, larger pre-op beds that are separated by walls instead of curtains. The entire surgical area is filled with natural light for the patients. “We try to make a soothing environment for patients,” Lindsay Hamsik the public relations coordinator for Northwest Hospital tells us.
To accommodate new technology, which is often large, the new operating rooms are 1,100 square feet each – larger than many apartments in Seattle. During the tour, visitors will see three new operating beds and technologies. The first is the DaVinci Robotic Surgical System, which allows for smaller incisions and faster recovery.
The second operating room on the tour highlights the Hana Orthopedic Surgery Table, which allows surgeons to maneuver patients into ideal positions for orthopedic surgeries such as knee or hip replacements.
The Jackson Neurosurgery Table is the final stop on the tour. This table is used for spinal surgeries such as spinal fusions or spinal repairs. The bed is also radiolucent so surgeons can take x-rays without having to move the patient.
If you’re interested in touring the facility, Northwest Hospital is hosting a public open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Here is more information on the expansion.
