With the start of June, it’s time to get busy. Here are some highlights this weekend from our Events calendar and from some of our partner sites:
There are plenty of farmers markets opening for the season this weekend, including the Phinney Farmers Market from 3-7 p.m. today in the lower parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N. (more on partner site PhinneyWood); the Magnolia Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday next to the Magnolia Community Center, 2550 34th Ave. W. (more on partner site Magnolia Voice); and until Maple Leaf gets its own farmers market, we’ve got the neighboring Meadowbrook Farmers Market, which kicks off Sunday at the Seattle Waldorf School, 2728 N.E. 100th St. Opening day festivities include face painting, giveaways and workshops. The nonprofit market is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Sunday until Oct. 31.- The Fremont First Friday Art Walk is tonight from 6-9, rain or shine. Our partner site Fremont Universe has more information.
- If you’re still in need of a few plants after Olympic View Elementary School’s April plant sale, fear not! From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the Late Bloomer Plant and Garden Sale can help you brighten your garden with plants, garden art and other accessories. You can get advice from a Master Gardener as well. The sale takes place at Lake City Presbyterian Church, 3841 N.E. 123rd St.
- Thornton Place is celebrating its first birthday tomorrow from 4-8 p.m. in the courtyard.
- Crazy about yard sales? Then you’ll want to check out the 17th annual Bigelow Block Sale that more than 40 homes are set to participate in from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Queen Anne. For a map of participating homes and more, go to partner site Queen Anne View.
- Seattle will get a taste of its own Tour de France from 3:30-9 p.m. Saturday during the Second Ascent Twilight Criterium, which MyBallard says will attract about 1,000 people to Old Ballard for the bicycling competition.
- And on Sunday, you can take your place in Seattle history by participating in a flash mob photo shoot at Gasworks Park for a Seattle Met Magazine cover from 2-2:30 p.m., according to partner site MyWallingford. You can even get your name in the photo credits if you RSVP on Facebook.
