An 18-year-old student at Roosevelt High School, who is already a registered sex offender, is charged with the third-degree rape of a 14-year-old special education student at the school.
The assault occurred in a girl’s bathroom at the school, 410 N.E. 66th St., according to the charging documents, and only stopped when someone else entered the room. The two students previously had a “dating relationship” in which the girl would “reluctantly engage” in sexual touching, the documents say.
Jose Rafael Reyes, a junior at the school, was charged with the rape on May 25. The court documents say he is a registered Level 2 sex offender convicted in 2007 of indecent liberties with force.
Our news partners The Seattle Times quote police as saying Reyes previously made sexually inappropriate comments to three girls ranging in age from 5 to 11. Most of the incidents occurred in or around the Greenwood neighborhood. He was also caught masturbating inside the Greenwood Public Library, police said.
Reyes’ last known address was living with his mother in Greenwood, according to the court documents. He is already serving a suspended sentence for the previous conviction and was participating in out-patient sex offender treatment, the documents state. His next court date is June 7.
