Easter Eggs return Saturday to Maple Leaf Park

April 2nd, 2015 by Mike

The 2014 egg hunt, before the deluge.

Maple Leaf’s Lux Communities is planning its second annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday at Maple Leaf Reservoir Park.

This is Micah from Lux Communities. We are having an Egg Hunt again this year. It is a free event for the community. It is this Saturday, April 4th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We will have age-graded egg hunts for children ages 2-10.

Their first hunt last year was quite a success.

Lakeview Free Methodist Church, which in the past has sponsored a hunt on the church’s 15th Avenue Northeast campus, appears to this year be holding a Neighborhood Carnival on May 30th.

Easter eggs in the park – followed by "not a drizzle"

April 19th, 2014 by Mike

The Easter egg hunt in Maple Leaf Reservoir Park got going earlier this morning – followed by rain.

A lot of rain.

And wind. At Maple Leaf Life South, 19 mph at 11:19 a.m.

Umbrellas were blown inside out.

Actually, it appeared there were at least two hunts – the one pictured here, sponsored by Lux Communities, and one a couple hours earlier in the lower park. (Kids plus a puppy.)

As for the rest of the day, here’s what KOMO tweeted earlier:

Two Easter celebrations in Maple Leaf

April 16th, 2014 by Mike

Two Maple Leaf groups have let the community know that they are holding celebrations around the Easter holiday this weekend.

Both are happening on Saturday.

The Lakeview Free Methodist Church, at 9412 15th Ave. N.E., is holding its annual Carnival of Eggs on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. All are invited.

And a relative newcomer, Lux Communities, has planned an egg hunt in the Maple Leaf Reservoir Park.

Lux Communities and Lux Coffee Company will be sponsoring a FREE Community Egg Hunt on April 19th from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the Maple Leaf Reservoir Park.

The Egg Hunt will have age graded opportunities for children 2-10 yrs. of age (roughly). It will be gathering at the Roosevelt and 85th Street side of the park. This event has been approved by the Seattle Parks Department

LUX Communities opens daily coffee shop (and has signs stolen)

March 6th, 2014 by Mike

What may be Maple Leaf’s most northern coffee shop is open for business in the former Maple Leaf Evangelical Church.

Laura emailed us Wednesday: “I enjoyed a coffee here today and told the fellow I spoke with named Trent, that I would send him information about the ML blog, so they can get connected to the community. He said they opened three weeks ago.”

And Trent emailed today: “I am sending you a message about a new coffee shop that opened a few weeks ago on Northeast 96th Street and 12th Avenue Northeast, called “LUX Coffee Co.”

LUX Coffee is operated out of the old church, now leased by LUX Communities. We wrote about LUX earlier here and here.

LUX Coffee has a Facebook page and a website. It’s open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Earlier this week Micah emailed:

I am a Maple Leaf Resident and a pastor of a local church, Lux Communities (1059 N.E. 96th St.). Some time after 2 p.m. and before this (Monday)  morning at 7 a.m. our “Community Breakfast” and “Lux Coffee Co.” signs were stolen. They are A-board style signs. We have reported it to the city.

Both the free breakfast and the coffee company are ways that we are trying to serve our community. We are wondering if anyone from the community saw anything or found the signs etc…?
