Three new sidewalks in Maple Leaf

There are currently more than 2,000 miles of sidewalks in Seattle, yet many parts of Maple Leaf and other neighborhoods do not have sidewalks at all.

Beginning late this month we’re getting three more. Two are along 15th Avenue Northeast; the other is on First Avenue Northeast just south of the Northgate Transit Center, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation:

One of the projects will be on the east side of First Avenue NE from NE 92nd Street to the existing sidewalk at approximately NE 97th Street near the Marie Callendar’s Restaurant. This new sidewalk will include curb ramps with tactile warning strips to alert users before they enter the street.  It will be a significant improvement along this major pedestrian connection.

While the 15th Avenue Northeast bridge is being rebuilt, the city is going to put in sidewalks from the bridge to Northgate Way. The other addition is a new asphalt walkway on the west side of 15th between Northeast 94th Street and Northeast 97th Street. Both are on the map, above.
