This afternoon Seattle Police issued a press release with the title: “Man in Distinct Orange Car Arrested After Trying to Lure 12-Year-Old Girl.”

The incident occurred just north of Maple Leaf on Wednesday.

A 50-year-old man is in custody for child luring following an incident that occurred in North Seattle yesterday afternoon.

Shortly after noon on Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a luring incident near Northeast 125th Street and 15th Avenue Northeast. Officers located the victim seeking refuge in a business. The victim, a 12-year-old girl, told officers that a man driving an orange, older model Ford Crown Victoria made contact with her and offered her a ride, which she refused. The suspect then became more aggressive and demanded that the she get into the car. A witness saw this interaction and yelled for the girl to run to safety. The girl ran to a nearby business until police arrived.

Officers began an exhaustive search for the orange car and the man driving it. Officers found both at a nearby parking lot. When officers approached, they saw the man with his erect penis sticking out of his pants, an open bottle of whisky at his side and a fixed blade knife within easy reach. The victim recognized both the car and the suspect. Officers arrested him and impounded his orange car.

The suspect is in King County Jail and a Sexual Assault detective has been assigned to investigate.

The adult witness was no longer on scene when officers arrived. Detectives would like to speak to her or any other person who saw this crime, or is aware of any other involving the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sexual Assault Unit at 206 684-5575.
