Report of brown tap water near light rail construction

Laura emails:

We live near First Avenue Northeast and Northeast 85th Street and are wondering if anyone else is experiencing tan(ish) water coming out of their taps this morning?

I’m assuming it has something to do with the link expansion construction, but it would be great to know if it’s just us or seems to be neighborhood wide.

  1. I live at !st AVE NE and NE 95th St. and about 3 months ago our water was shut off for about 4 hours on a Saturday. I can’t remember what the reason was but when the water was turned back on it was brown for awhile.

  2. Also a lot of the older homes in this area originally had galvanized pipe connecting to the water main. All it takes is a little vibration (from construction perhaps) to shake loose some of the rust.

  3. No problem with my water — just a few blocks up the hill from you.

Has tunneling begun? I’m skeptical that it would impact the water supply… does your house of old galvanized plumbing? That will eventually rust from the inside and discolor your water. (so a plumber told me when he suggested I replace mine).
