Pot shops could come to Maple Leaf (at our fringes)

It’s very preliminary, but our news partner The Seattle Times has published a map showing where pot businesses might be permitted under the state’s new law allowing the sale of marijuana.

Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development has prepared a map of where pot businesses — stores, farms, processing plants — might be located after state officials proposed revised rules on Wednesday.

You can read some of the details in the Times story, but basically the colored areas are potential pot sites. In and around Maple Leaf, they appear restricted to the Northgate and Lake City Way areas.

The state has decided to license 334 marijuana stores, including at least 21 in Seattle. The map shows the most availability south of downtown.

  1. This could be the beginning of the end of the “bad boy” allure of marijuana; which has been a large part of what has made teenagers and young adults so intrigued by its reputation, since the time when jazz musicians and actors such as the late Robert Mitchum enhanced its aura as a drug of the counter-culture.

After all, if the parents are smoking joints at home, they can, at least, counsel their offspring as to what is so potent, it’s best not smoked the night before a math exam. Call it the closing of the proverbial Generation Gap.

  2. Man, Lake City is going to make for quite the destination. In just a few miles on the same road, someone can have quite an evening.

-Go a restaurant and have a nice meal and some drinks
-Then go buy some weed and smoke out
-Next stop in the strip club for a couple lappers
-Then take another puff or two of the weed and visit a nice dive bar for a few more drinks and munch on some peanuts.
-Finally, hit Dicks for some late night grub to thoroughly satisfy the munchies.

Hell, who needs the Vegas strip when you have Lake City Way!! 🙂

  3. Don’t we already have like 10? Although the one in the old bbq place on Lake City Way just went out of business. I think I have 2 or 3 within walking distance of my house.

Editor: You are referring to medical marijuana clinics. The new stores will sell recreational pot.
