Crossbow bolt found in Maple Leaf utility pole?

Update: It was embedded about an inch into the utility pole, about 6 feet off the ground.

———————————-

A neighbor says he found this – dart? – Friday sticking out of a utility pole at Northeast 88th Street and 12th Avenue Northeast Roosevelt Way Northeast.

It was imbedded a little over head height. I looked online – hardly cupid’s arrow – it appears to be a crossbow bolt!”

The neighbor says he took the bolt, which is 6-7 inches long, to the Seattle Police North Precinct, but officials said there was little they could do without catching someone in the act.

  1. Man, until Matt debunked the dart’s dangerousness, I was hoping maybe Daryl from the Walking Dead was out helping defend the neighborhood against wandering zombie attacks.

  2. I happen own some darts just like that — they seem to be standard issue junk from China. Mine came with a crappy little $20 crossbow I bought at a bodega, and let me tell you: it is such a load of junk that I put the thing aside before I even had a chance to lose all the ammo… I have a hard time believing that the dart pictured above was embedded an inch deep in ANYTHING. Seriously. And before you say, “but maybe it was fired from a better crossbow than the one you have,” I say, fire that dart from whatever you like. Recurve bow, 30.06, rail gun, howitzer… doesn’t matter, because its just a dull conical steel tip wedged into an aluminum tube with a plastic “vanes” stuck into the other end. Even were it fired from a space-based missile platform, that crappy little crossbow bolt would have folded upon impact with the phone pole. Or anything else. I doubt it could even be gently hammered in, without coming apart! If hitting something with one didn’t render it useless, they would make a decent nerf substitute. As a weapon, its about as dangerous as a water balloon. Less, if its cold water.
Lets all try to reign in our rampant fear of archers, eh? There are so many REAL dangers that merit our attention. Like Subaru drivers. Srsly, what is their deal?
