A  robbery attempt here last Friday afternoon involves the same car used in a previous robbery in June, police report.

On Friday, July 8, at about 4:15 p.m. a driver on Eighth Avenue Northeast was waiting for traffic to clear on Northeast Northgate Way when another driver pulled up alongside and asked him to pull over so she could ask him some questions, according to a police report.

“The victim thought since the suspect had an elderly female with her that they may need assistance so he pulled into the lot located at 8 Ave NE/NE Northgate Way,” the police report states.

There, the woman said “something similar to, ‘we are so embarrassed to have to do this but we need food for my grandma. She got kicked out of her home and she needs food and money.'”

The man refused, and the woman then reached down inside the car and demanded money “or I’m going to shoot you.

The victim fearing he was about to be shot quickly drove off in his car. The victim took a picture of the suspect vehicle’s license plate before leaving and stated he could definitely identify the suspect if he saw her again. The victim also stated he is pretty sure he has seen the suspect vehicle around the Northgate area on several occasions.

The police report states that the elderly woman didn’t seem aware of what was going on, and also that the same vehicle was used in another robbery the evening of  June 16.

In that case, in the 1300 block of North 77th Street, a man told police  “that a young mixed race male and female, driving a newer, shiny BLK Dodge Charger with chrome rims pulled up behind him, as he was bringing his wife home from the hospital.”

They told him something was wrong with his car and used a wrench to pretend to do something to the shocks, then demanded $300, police report. When he refused, they asked for $100, then stole his wallet and sped off down North 77th with the woman driving, according to that police report.

  1. So I see a story on UDistrictDaily’s site that says the male suspect who pulled the “wrench job” on the elderly man (towards end of story) was arrested June 16th. Here’s part of the entry.

” The victim refused to pay. The suspect reached over the victim’s shoulder and removed the victim’s wallet from his back pocket. The suspect then fled in a black Dodge Charger, driven by an unknown female.

Detectives followed up on information developed during the investigation and identified a suspect. Early this morning, North Precinct officers located the 19 year old male suspect in the University District inside an apartment. The suspect ran out the back and jumped off a deck to escape the officers, but was taken into custody a short distance away. He was later booked into the King County Jail.”

I’m confused as to why the police can’t track down this girl & the Charger from here? Hopefully it will happen soon!

  2. Can we get the plate # posted here?

Maple Leaf Life: Plate isn’t listed in the (redacted) police report. I’ll forward along to the department. -Mike

  3. Wow, apparently a lot of people have encountered these people. I am almost certain I have seen the car people are talking about, but have yet to be approach by the two people.

Along with the articles and announcements, hearing people share the same experiences is one of the major benefits of this website. I think it would be beneficial if there was a community forum board or something associated with this website where people could post messages in case common issues are occurring and no article is written to allow comments. I realize something that like takes a lot of management to keep spam and unwanted messages out, but it might be worth investigating. Everything from crime warnings, garage sales, community events, etc…. could all be posted on the message board by residents. Just an idea.

  4. Wow, I just called my husband and he is calling in a police report. These folks approached him Monday when he was in our driveway washing cars. At the time he told me it was odd folks in such an expensive car would be asking for money. It was a woman and an elderly woman. They made no threats. Elderly woman was white and younger woman of color, though ahe called her grandmother. I really hope they are found because at this point I fear for the elderly woman who could even be in a hostage situation, who knows. We live a couple blocks from the Mall.

  5. I had a woman in what I assume was the same car approach me while I was pumping gas in the U District. She opened with the same “can I ask you something” and then asked me to put gas in her car. She said it was her dad’s car and she had spent the night in it.

  6. I saw a Dodge Charger matching this description in Ballard in late June. I can find the exact date because I tweeted about how weird the circumstances were.

A woman was driving. I walked past her car as she was talking to a guy on Market, next to the fire station. A few minutes later, she was right in front of me, having crossed 15th and driven through the Burger King parking lot to approach me. She rolled down the passenger window and said, “Excuse me, can I ask you something?” Which sounded like panhandling to me, and coming out of a modded $30k car, yeah, that wasn’t going to happen. I said no and kept walking. Guess I should listen to my instincts more often.
