It’s been nine days since we checked the police crime map and posted on burglaries and other crimes in the neighborhood. In that time we have had a reported burglary. One.

In fact, it’s the only one so far this month.

We’re not complaining.

Overnight between March 10 and March 11, somebody burglarized a home in the 1200 block of Northeast 100th Street by breaking in through the garage, police report.

Toward the turn of the year we had a rash of burglaries. Police at the time said it was likely the work of a small number of people. “One or two people or one little group of friends can be responsible for a lot in a short time. It’s not a crime wave,” said Detective Mike Cruzan.

A police crime prevention coordinator, Diane Horswill, said Maple Leaf averages six to eight burglaries a month.

In the past several days cars were stolen :

  • March 13 from the 8800 block of Lake City Way Northeast.
  • March 11 from the 800 block of Northeast 106th Street.
  • March 10 from the 200 block of Northeast 91st Street.
  • March 8 from the 7500 block of Roosevelt Way Northeast.
  • Also, on March 11 a car was reported stolen that was actually taken March 6, from the 400 block of Northeast 85th Street.

Additionally, a car was broken into March 4 in the 9000 block of 17th Avenue Northeast.

And a bicycle was stolen March 11 from the 9200 block of First Avenue Northeast.
