Reaction to cars turning onto Roosevelt Way

We’re getting some response to our recent post on the maddening difficulty of turning onto Roosevelt Way Northeast.

Simon writes: “It’s never been that safe to turn onto Roosevelt or 5th from side streets. I personally think the problem relates to *every* single intersection on both those arterials through Maple Leaf.”  David Miller lays at least some of the blame on the spate of townhomes.

And Barbara has posted the problem at Roosevelt and Northeast 88th Street (the one we originally highlighted) on the Maple Leaf Community Council’s issue reporting map.

She also writes:

How about putting up a “No Parking South of Here” sign where the SUV is parked at the northeast corner of 88th/Roosevelt (in our photo).
I go around the block, down 99th. Turn north to go south on Roosevelt. It’s too scary otherwise. Another thing since the bridge has been closed, I hear a lot more horn honking. Better than having car accidents there.

  1. 96th and 97th on Roosevelt are terrible, too. 97th used to be tolerable until they took out the bus stop. Now people park all the way to the corner!

  2. My street (92nd) between Roosevelt and 5th is pretty bad. Trying to turn North on Roosevelt from 92nd between 5 and 7 is almost impossible without pulling right out into traffic. Sometimes I turn south and then turn around in the 7-11 parking lot. My guess is that is illegal…..but I cannot see around the parked cars.

  3. Oooo, how about “No parking south/north of here” all along 15th? I know on my corner (91st) it is terrifying sometimes.

Also, how about some paint signalling no parking on Lake City Way and 90th, in front of the Stratford? There is almost always cars parked right up to the corner on the south side, making it impossible to see if cars are sppeding towards you.
