The annual Maple Leaf Ace Hardware BYOB sale is this Saturday.

Although it’s usually thought of as “20 percent off everything that fits in a store shopping bag,” the staff will tell you they’re quite a bit more lenient. You can bring your own bag; in fact, fliers arriving in the mail this week advertising the sale show a golf bag stuffed with a rake and shovel.

Power tools and small appliances qualify for only 10 percent off, and some items like grills and lumber aren’t covered – even if you could find a bag big enough.

By the way, the store has a seed-starting demonstration on a counter. You can watch the seedlings grow on its  Facebook page.
