Backpack lost this morning in Maple Leaf

February 13th, 2015 by Mike

Judy emails:

Is there a way to post a lost backpack? Maybe someone found it. Lost this morning between Northeast 86th Street and Roosevelt Way Northeast and Roosevelt and Northgate Way.

It was accidentally set on the outside of our work truck, so it fell off somewhere. Thanks if you can help!

iPods, joy riders, guitars, Google maps – news from the neighbors

August 4th, 2011 by Mike

News from Maple Leaf neighbors:

1) Lost an iPod? Call or email the folks above.

2) Zack posts on our Facebook wall a little before 10:30 a.m. today:  “Spotted the Google Maps car in Maple Leaf today. Last seen at 80th & 4th Ave NE. Smile for the camera!”

3) Also on our Facebook wall, Kendra posts: “Ginny Reilly’s (of Reilly and Maloney singing fame) Gallagher acoustic guitar was stolen from her North Seattle residence on the afternoon of Saturday, July 30.

“The guitar is a ‘71 Special’ model, serial # 1032. It was in a soft black canvas ‘gig bag’ case with a black iron-on patch inside, facing the neck toward the upper end. This has been Ginny’s main performance instrument for over 30 years, and we are devastated by its loss.

“With only ~3,600 Gallagher guitars in circulation anywhere, these instruments are unique, noticeable, and rare.  Any/all leads welcome: reillyandmaloney@comcast.net.”

4) And finally, Arya emails today: “Yesterday at about 7 or 8, a BMW 5 series (e61) came roaring up 89th street. They crossed the 17th street intersection with enough speed (50 mph +) to completely leave the ground, bottom out at the other side of the intersection. They left a lot of car parts on the scene: Transmission/ oil pan cooling fins and a fender/light cowling (which had part numbers that I used to identify the model)

The car had all the windows down, and had 4 young men laughing (all shirtless, maybe one wife beater amongst them). They stopped at the top of the hill (near 15th) the driver got out, looked at rear bumper, then got back in and drove off.

I guess I bring this up for 2 reasons:

One: Maybe that car was stolen, I could probably identify the driver. Know of any stolen BMWs?

Two: The 17th and 89th st intersection is dangerous due to people flying though in both directions at speed w/o stopping to check for cross traffic.

There is no traffic circle or any speed bumps here, and I’m told by neighbors that there have been many collisions over the years.

There are a lot of children on bikes who ride here daily, and I don’t think it is unlikely that some is going to get hurt.

Think you could use help us get some traffic management done here? Requests with the city don’t seem to get us anywhere.

Lost dog reported in Maple Leaf

May 31st, 2011 by Mike

Update June1: “Annie” is back with her family.

Douglas writes on the Maple Leaf Life Facebook page:

Today I found a loveable but stray Lhasa-Apso/Schitzu blond mix on 20th Ave NE between 89th and 90th Streets. She was clean, friendly and happy to see me but had no tags (nor appeared to be registered). I took her to Maple Leaf Pet Corner on Lake City Way where she is currently waiting to be reunited with her family.

Later he stopped and took a photo of her, and added: “Maple Leaf Pet Corner 206-522-8335.”

Found: a lost kids’ bike

May 25th, 2011 by Mike

Rico emails us:

If anyone is missing a kids’ bike, let me know. Someone appears to have abandoned a bike on the street in front of our house a couple days ago. I wonder if someone took it for a joy ride and ditched it.

You can e-mail me a description of any lost bike and I will respond back with an address if it is a match.

Lost dog found near Olympic View Elementary

March 19th, 2011 by Mike

Ginger wrote this morning to tell us she found a Vizsla near Olympic View Elementary School, 504 N.E. 95th St.

I found this dog wandering near the elementary school, darting in front of cars. I’ve taken it home to try and locate the owner. I will have to call Seattle Animal Control shortly, I can’t keep the dog at my house for long. I’d guess it’s about 80 pounds. Collar, no tags. Very friendly with people and other dogs. If you know or recognize the dog please contact the owners to get in touch with me!

Know this dog? Call Ginger at 206-498-6074, or leave her a message here.

Update: Jackie has since posted this on the Maple Leaf Life Facebook page: “I think this dog is owned by a family on 96th btw 8th and Roosevelt with a child who attends OV. I’ve seen them with the dog before.”

Something different from the weekend

February 22nd, 2010 by Mike

It appears Maggie’s blanket went AWOL in Maple Leaf. Here’s hoping she gets it back. (The sign is on Roosevelt Way Northeast just south of Northeast 90th Street.)

Also missing in the neighborhood are at least one dog and one cat. Good luck to them and their owners.
