Plenty of property crimes here (and everywhere)

Nate emails this week:

We created a police report this morning related to a miter saw theft from our garage last night, but wanted to follow up with a notification to neighbors.

Our garage door sensor tripped after we had left the garage last night causing the door to go back up and leave the garage wide open without us being aware. Sometime between 5.30 p.m. last night and 8.00 a.m. this morning our Dewalt DW715 miter saw and miter saw stand were stolen. It does not appear that anything else was stolen from the garage.

We appreciate your help recovering this stolen item, or preventing similar events in the future through neighborhood awareness. Thanks.

Property crimes are frequent in Maple Leaf – and throughout the city. The map above shows police reports for those crimes – bike theft, burglaries, car prowls, mail theft – during 2016.

Can’t see the neighborhood boundaries for the crime reports? Right.

Another neighbor emails:

Hello – Overnight Dec. 29 – 30, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., our locked garage was broken into (literally the garage door was broken and forced open). The thieves stole a high-end Mercier bicycle and potentially some tools. The bike is extra small (sized for a 5-foot-2 inch person), with aero handlebars, carbon fiber stem, and a butterfly seat. It is by far the nicest bicycle I have ever owned and I want it back!
