  1. Well I didn’t really mean to have the pothole thing ruffle your feathers and yes I have reported them numerous times. my point is that people dart in and out and across the street not using any of the crosswalks, with the buses lined up on the street people come between them.
To make my point, there is a light & a crosswalk at 5th & 100th. There is none at 4th leading into the business park, where about 3000 people work. There is a bus stop there and people dart out constantly to make a bus connection there. Further down at 3rd, which leads into the business park on the north and Thorton, as well as, the commuter parking there is no distinguishable crosswalk. There is a crosswalk at the light leading into the bus depot. This unfortunately is where the lady was struck. Then just prior to 1st there is another exit from the business park to the north & another commuter parking lot on the south side.
In the business park we have, Group Health, Pima medical, Crisis Clinic, Delta Dental, a few banks, and real estate offices to name a few that have high vehicle thruput.
Incidentally I petitioned the city numerous times for the digital speed signs on 15th prior to the young man getting killed at 8th a few years ago. I did the same for the light at 8th when I heard that ADWAS was moving there.
So to clarify my point was that on any other street with that much high vehicle & pedestrian thruput I feel something needs to be done. I’m really really sorry if you felt I was a tad to dramatic. You are correct going down 103rd is a lot more congested but I do believe they have proper lights on that street especially coming out of the mall.
My point about the potholes and one that I probably shouldn’t have started my point with is that they are bad enough for people to swerve in and out and around them and are just one other distraction on an already hectic street.

  2. On a pot hole side note, I’ve reported 2 via the city’s webform in the past year, each one was filled within 3-4 days. Report them, rather than complain here about them if you want action.

  3. What do pot holes have to do with this? Describing this street as driving through a gauntlet is just a tad bit exaggerated. Quite frankly, driving down 103rd is much more daunting given the congestion of traffic from the Northgate Mall and Thornton Place. Stop being so dramatic.

  4. A bus exiting the transit center struck and killed a woman. How many hundreds of potholes there are on the street has nothing to do with pedestrian safety.

  5. Nope, the woman had the right of way. At this intersection, the light for buses exiting the transit center comes on at the same time as the light for the crosswalk across 100th.

I’m not sure what potholes have to do with any of this.

The real problem is the design of the bus:

Note that compared to the photo of “pedestrian copied 19 times” which was taken in New York, our Metro has different mirrors which sit down lower.

  6. Such a travesty, I work in this area and 4 years have been complaining about the potholes along with the buses lining up on the street. Now that we have the light rail work going on makes it even more congested. Driving down this tree is like driving through a gauntlet everything is coming from different angles.
From the angle of the accident it looks as if the bus driver had the right of way and unfortunately this elderly woman was not seen it is really unfortunate.
