“There will be a prayer service on Monday, July 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Catherine’s Parish across the street from the fires,” writes Maiya (and Erica) in comments on our earlier post.

“They will collect any cash donations for the families that the community would like to make as well as any written well-wishes for those affected. At this time the parish did not think the families needed clothing, food or other material items, but that could change in the coming weeks.”

Her information is coming from the church.

On Friday the Seattle Fire Department tweeted:

Yesterday’s fire on 8 Ave NE damaged 6 structures was determined to be intentionally set. $2.5 million loss. SPD is investigating.

More information on the Thursday morning fire, including photos, can be found on the fire department’s Fire Line here.

There is a standard $10,000 reward fund for information that helps solve arson fires.

  1. If anyone finds who did it I bet it wont be SPD, it would be the BATF or FBI. Seattle Police arent very adept at doing much of anything in north Seattle. The arson, murder, armed robberies, and home burglaries etc show us that they have more important things to attend to.

  2. Whoever did this is a criminal that needs to go to jail. I’ve heard from someone that I trust that the authorities have a pretty good idea of who torched the adjacent house 10 years ago, but didn’t have enough evidence to bring charges … and that this person, who lives in our neighborhood, is likely involved again. We likely means have a serial arsonist living amongst us. One who is so blinded by their bizarre vendetta that they were willing to torch a house, right next to many houses filled with children, during the driest summer in memory. This person is not stable, and needs to go down. Someone out there knows who did this and needs to step up and put this scumbag away before he kills a bunch of kids.

  3. Whoever did this knew what they were doing. A conscious choice to torch this new home. Unfortunately for the adjacent neighbors they have to suffer severe loss due to the destruction this arson caused.
I feel for those who have lost their homes and were so fearfully awakened in the middle of the night!!
Hope whoever did this is caught and punished soon!!

  4. I think this is eerily too similar to the last torching in that area….again–of a home under construction. So sad for the folks who had their lives upended by a jerk(s)…..

  5. I seem to recall that the house on the corner of 8th and 85th was also torched when it was under construction… but that fire was stopped before it spread to the whole house… did they ever catch that perp?

Maybe Mapleleaf has some anti-development anarchists at work.

  6. Suspected as much, it started in the middle of the night in a house under construction. Hope the police are able to track down the perp. Condolences to all affected.
