Movie and music specialist Silver Platters has moved its Maple Leaf store to Lynnwood.

Northgate Station –  the strip mall that houses Silver Platters, SAS Shoes and several other stores, was purchased last year by Sound Transit.

The site, just south of the Northgate Transit Center on First Avenue Northeast and across from Interstate 5, will become a part of the link between the Maple Leaf Portal and the Northgate Light Rail station.

Silver Platters closed in Maple Leaf on July 12, according to its Facebook page.

It also has locations in south Seattle and Bellevue.

  1. SAS moved to 10106 3rd Ave NE–the previously empty retail space between the Watershed and Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union.

  2. The closing date for the Oroweat (sic) store will be Friday, August 28th, according to”Karen #2.”

For the record, the Oroweat store seems to have a steady stream of business, with people coming from neighborhoods other than Maple Leaf. In point of fact, the was a van from the Sultan food bank there, this morning, taking bread products.

Indeed, it has been confirmed that the store be relocated within Seattle, due in part to the permitting process. Asked about Shoreline, Karen #2 replied, “We looked there and couldn’t find a place. Now, we’re looking at Lynnwood.”

  3. I don’t think I’ve been to that Silver Platters in a decade, ditto on the bread store, I feel like those businesses have been slowly dying for years. I’m excited for the light rail stop and the new opportunities for local businesses and restaurants, as well as the quick train to all places South.

  4. I remember when Warren Westlund Buick moved to that site in 1967, they were there until 1986 when the present strip mall was built. The present bus transit center housed a Group Health building for quite a long time.
Once light rail arrives, expect to see vast change in the area, remember the Marie Callendar’s site is to become a hotel. The existing parking lot and transit center area are to be altered, developed and maximized.

  5. Lisa, construction of the elevated guideway will cause major impacts to the parking lot. Rather than close off the parking lot and drive them all out of business, Sound Transit chose to buy them out.

Also, when I walked by this morning, all except for Silver Platters and the Mail & Ship place are still open. Namfom even had a “help wanted” sign up.

  6. This bothers me, too. I go to that bread store often. I also went to Silver Platters (less often) and the swim store. The SAS Shoe place is re-opening at Thornton Place. I do not understand why Sound Transit gets to do this – this rail link isn’t scheduled to open until 2021.

  7. About the Orowheat store. It will not be in the city limits of Seattle for sure. Its a stupid legal thing. I go there at least once a week and am very sad about this.

  8. The mail store has also closed and my understanding is that all the tenets are supposed to vacate their area by August 31.

  9. Additionally, the Oroweat (sic) Bakery Outlet, 9578 First Avenue NE, is closing at the end of August; according to Karen, who has worked there for several years.

She added that, as of this writing, there’s no word on where the store will be relocated; however, she said, “We’ll have signs up (telling of the new location),when we know.”
