A dozen burglaries here during June

Evan emails overnight:

“Our house at (Northeast 89th Street and Eighth Avenue Northeast) was broken into this afternoon in broad daylight during a brief period where nobody was at home, despite an ADT alarm system (with obvious signs and stickers around the house exterior) and rather attentive neighbors.

“The burglar broke down our front door, removed the lock, searched for low-hanging fruit, left out the back door, and ransacked our garage. It looks to have been a very quick operation.

“One of our neighbors actually saw the burglar in the garage right before he left — apparently he was a Caucasian male. There was also an unknown black car on our block at the time that may have been related.”

The burglar stole some i Pads, computers, cameras, jewelry, watches, and several bottles of wine. “He also stole all identity-related documents he could find.”

This was one of 12 burglaries in Maple Leaf during June, according to the police crime map. Ten of those were homes. (The two at top left are businesses.)

  1. We live behind the QFC on Roosevelt & Northgate Way, on a dead end street. There has been a huge increase in drug dealing, drug use, and pedestrian traffic on our street going into the greenbelt adjacent to the park at the end of the QFC parking lot. On Friday, a travel trailer backed up over the curb at the Northeast corner of the QFC parking lot and set up camp, right next to the trail leading down from 12th NE. Then the foot traffic of people with backpacks began to show up, obviously buying drugs through the door of the trailer, then taking off. Each transaction taking about 3 min. We hounded the police throughout the weekend, to finally have them come on Sunday night, confront the 3 people inside the trailer and proceed to have the trailer towed away. Tonight, we noticed increase foot traffic again, only to find that the same people were back selling drugs. My husband happened on them when he was taking the trail to QFC. They threatened him saying they know where we live and will be back. Police were called and they checked out the area, but the men took off. Please avoid the trail down to the QFC parking lot, it is unsafe. We are now extremely worried about retaliation for sticking up for our neighborhood. The people are 2 men, around 26 yrs old, white, wearing red basketball shorts/red basketball tank top with hat. Tattoos/black backpack/short crew cut. Other man, long black hair acting like he’s strung out on meth. There was also a woman, though we did not see her up close. Please call police if you see them around your street.

  2. Our neighbor saw this exact same van as “Dancer” reported. Please share that license plate with police. 3 people got out of the van while she stayed in the van texting. Our neighbor called 911 which the police said it certainly sounded suspicious but they were to busy to investigate. Having the license plate would help immensely. If you don’t want to be reported for suspicious activity then don’t look shady. Please share that info with Police.

  3. Our house on 89th was broken into over the long weekend for the one night we were away. Laptops, jewelry, medications, iPods, and checkbooks were stolen. We’ve spoken to neighbors and believe this happened overnight. They broke in the front door and left out the back so it sounds like it could’ve been the same person as Evan’s house. This is peak season for these thieves, make sure to keep all windows, doors, etc locked and alert your neighbors if you’ll be out of town, avoid posting on social media when you’re away, and make sure you have a well lit yard/motion lights, etc.

  4. As an FYI, this morning (Sunday, 7/5) a Caucasian man knocked on my front door around noon. I was in the living room, reading, and went to the door. He started in with a very quick spiel about some window company that would be in the area tomorrow and giving free estimates, etc. I told him I wasn’t interested, but everyone, be on the alert. I suspect it was bogus.

  5. You must not have been listening to the recorded message when you’re on hold. Your call goes to the bottom of the emergency queue. Any time someone dials 911, they go ahead of you in the queue, bumping you even further.

  6. Seattle Police Non Emergency, spent way too much time waiting for anybody to answer. They take Non Emergency literally. Sad but true, if my information to 911 isn’t important enough to them to take it, I am not waiting ad infinitum to give it to somebody less than interested in taking it.

  7. Just a reminder to report any suspicious activity to SPD. They are grateful for the information! Here’s the number for Seattle Police Non-Emergency: 206-625-5011.

  8. This is from “Next Door.” Posted yesterday.
If you all aren’t signed up for Next Door/Maple Leaf – you might want to think about it. I don’t know if the Odyssey is a truck or if it was black – or if this relates to you – but I’m posting it anyway.
    _______________
We live on 15th NE and NE 94th and just came in from outside after noticing an old Honda Odyssey parked across the street with a woman driver (white, mid-late 40s maybe?). My sister saw two passengers get out and go separate ways while the vehicle and driver stayed parked. One passenger was a white female 40-ish and the other was a white male around the same age with a backpack. The female passenger came back with a handful of mail, the male passenger didn’t appear to have anything and he walked down 15th past the parked car and down (east on) 95th. The female passenger got in the car and rode away with the female driver. I have the license plate number, but don’t feel right about putting it on this post because I don’t really know what they were up to. I’ve never seen any of the people or their car in this neighborhood, where I’ve lived for the last five years. Has anyone else seen these folks or car?

  9. Last Monday there was a guy with a dark green shirt & dark hair snooping around cars and fences in the alley between 95th & 96th. He took off when he saw that I was in the backyard.
