The free summer block party to bring together residents of North Seattle returns this weekend to the Oak Tree Cinema parking lot as we again Celebrate North Seattle.

The third annual event, sponsored by Oak Tree Dental, the U.S. Navy and Epic Life Church, is from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, June 24.

Entertainment for the entire family will include live music from local band Buckets of Rain, bounce houses and carnival games for the kids, food, and door prizes and gift from a number of local businesses and community groups. From a news release:

“We love what we’ve experienced in this event,” says block party logistics coordinator Averi Norgaard. “To me, this is more than just a block party – it’s a collective step toward creating community along Aurora Avenue in North Seattle.”

In addition to entertainment, local businesses will have informative booths, and North Seattle Rotary Club and Salvation Army are bringing back the Shoes for Souls Project, which aims to collect 1,000 pairs of new shoes for children and youth in crisis situations in the North Seattle. Event attendees are encouraged to donate a brand new pair of shoes to help reach the goal.

  1. UPDATE: They sent me another text saying that if I gave the location of my vehicle they would come and clean the residue off the windshield. I did this and they came this afternoon. It appears whatever they used did the trick.

  2. Just left a message. It came off substantially, but a sheen of red ink will simply not come off. Not sure what recourse there is short of small claims or a class action, but my hope is that at least they’ll think twice next year.

  3. The phone number for the group who put on the event is (206) 486-4646. I suggest you give them a call and let them know your frustration with the damage to your personal property caused by the flier. If enough people contact them perhaps they will feel they need to take some action to make it right.

  4. I also have that residue left on my windshield. I left a voicemail with the event organizers and was sent a text back saying a little soapy water will take it right off. Not the case. I feel pretty strongly that this group needs to know that property damage these fliers caused.

  5. Has anyone discussed this with their insurance company to any effect? I still have that residue and I can only imagine it’s going to effect my resale value when I leave the country in six months.

  6. I second what GWCowan said….I am INCREDIBLY frustrated because residue was left on my car from the flyer and will not come off. It left this film that i can’t get off my car. I am all for celebrating neighborhood unity, especially if it supports the arts, but flyers on winshields are the worst possible way to promote this. I am so frustrated and the event has left a sour taste in my mouth from damaging my car.

  7. Next time this event takes place, please tell the person or people who are putting out flyers on the event to NOT put them on car windshields or anywhere on the cars in the nearby neighborhoods as they become glued on after a rain or if they get damp and have to be soaked to be removed and even then, the image remains on the windshield. This is very frustrating and even angering when you find it on 2 of your vehicles.

  8. This is such a great, great event!! I grew up in North Seattle and absolutely love the area and what is has become over the years. It’s especially great seeing that my dentist, Oak Tree Dental (http://www.oaktreedentalcare.com), is one of the sponsors!! You can count on seeing my kids down there jumping around like crazy and supporting the city!
