Lost your chicken? The third animal report of the week

Update, 3 p.m. The owners of the chicken – whose name is Becky, or is it Aurora? – have been found. We think. And Carolyn has been rewarded.

I wanted to thank you and your readers for all of the help today.

Becky’s owner just came by and picked her up. The chicken had walked/flew five blocks to get to 97th Street. While hanging around waiting to be claimed, she laid an egg for us. So, Becky may be an adventurous chicken, but she is a very polite guest.

Earlier this morning Katie e-mailed us to say  “a neighbor suggested the Maple Leaf blog might be a good way to find the owner of a chicken that was in my yard.

“If anyone is missing a big chicken, there was one in my yard yesterday and again this morning. On 97th St, between Roosevelt and 12th.”

And a few minutes later we got another mail from Carolyn:

Could you help us find the owner of this chicken?

This friendly escape artist has been wandering up and down NE 97th St.between Roosevelt and 12th for the last two days.

It has now been captured and is in the front yard of 1050 NE 97th St. If this is your chicken, please drop-by and claim it.

There is a photo attached to help with identification.

We’ve posted about neighborhood chickens before, but would be interested in getting doing a rough chicken census. Anybody out there with chickens, let us know. Heck, send us photos!

  1. Well folks, I made it back home safely and the walkin’ blues are in remission. Thanks to all my neighbors for looking out for me. A special shout out goes to Carolyn, David, Karen, Twiggy and MapleLeafLife.com. Bu GAWK!

On a more serious note, I’d like to say my thoughts are with Becky tonight. Hope you make it home, girl!

  2. We have forwarded all e-mails on the current chicken caper to the chicken custodians and are confident all will be well. Stay tuned for a final update. And photos! – Maple Leaf Life

  3. Wilson took Aurora thinking it was my Becky and I wasn’t there to ID her. Wilson tried to return her back but the neighbors told him to keep it ?!

Wilson has her in our coup now. He decided to not let it roam free. She is safe with our other birds. Will safe-keep for you. We emailed tele_21 with our numbers. We didn’t mean to steal Aurora.

  4. I don’t think my sister Twiggy and Wilson claimed it either since they asked to be contacted, but didn’t leave any contact info. Somebody else has Aurora then.

  5. Somebody claimed our chicken!

Judging by the picture and the fact that our chicken has been missing since yesterday AND the fact that we live on the same street where it was found all point to the fact that the chicken in question is not Becky. Her name is Aurora and we would really like to have her back.

Please contact me if you have her: tele_21@hotmail.com
    Thanks!

  6. Thank you for locating our missing chicken, Aurora!! We felt pretty silly trying to call her by name in the alley behind our house last night…

One of us will be by to pick her up this afternoon/evening.
    Thanks again -Karen & Tad

  7. The neighbors across the alley have two chickens … escape artists too … they live on the 1200 block of 98th. (close to the 12th & 98th corner chickens) I’m glad Becky was claimed … I watched her being wrangled this morning!

  8. We lost our chicken 3 days ago, our Becky looks like the picture. Please contact us. Her feet is yellow and she just laid an egg

  9. My sister has 3 chickens, Rhode Island reds, in Sandpoint next to the new fire station/Metropolitan Market. She just lost one of them, Becky, three days ago. I don’t think her feet are this yellow, but it would be crazy if Becky trekked all to way up to our Maple Leaf.

  10. We have three at Latona and 91st. (2 or 3 more coming this Spring).

We also know of 2 or 3 at the flag property across the street from the “Sun House” at 2nd and 90th.

  11. There is a lady who has chickens who lives (her house borders it) next to the University Prep field. That’s about all I can offer..
