If you take a look at our Events calendar, there can be no doubt that the holiday season is well upon us, whether or not you’re ready.

But there are plenty of events taking place this weekend to help you get ready, or at least help you get in a festive mood:

  • The Northgate Community Center, 10510 Fifth Ave N.E., is holding its annual Breakfast With Santa from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. However, you’d better call the center at  206-386-4283 quick to reserve your spot – if all of the tables haven’t already been taken.
  • Meanwhile, on Sunday you’re invited from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to bring your pooch or other friendly pet to Northgate Mall’s Winter Wonderland to get a picture taken with Santa.
  • Also on Sunday, for those of you in a particularly giving mood, there will be a Work Party at Thornton Creek Park No. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are asked to meet on the south side of Northeast 105th Street, between Fifth Avenue Northeast and Eighth Avenue Northeast. For more information, contact Ruth Williams at ruthalice@comcast.net or 206-930-8965.
  • Arts and crafts abound at the Laurelhurst Holiday Art Sale and Winter Festival today until 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the nearby Laurelhurst Community Center, 4554 N.E. 41st St.
  • And the shopping continues at the Ravenna Holiday Arts and Crafts Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, just south of us at the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center, 6535 Ravenna Ave. N.E. Read more about it here.
  • Would you rather create your own crafts than buy them? Then stop by the University District Farmers Market on Saturday for a Swag and Wreath Making Party from 9 a.m. to noon. This free event will provide you with all of the greens, holly, ribbons, ornaments and plenty of other wreath-decorating accoutrement you need to make your very own wreath and/or swag, along with plenty of hot cider and cookies.
  • Meanwhile, you can both shop and create from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Winter Faire at the Seattle Waldorf School in Meadowbrook at 2728 N.E. 100th St. There will be unique gifts from local vendors at the festive event, as well as the opportunity for children to make crafts and holiday gift items. Admission is free; activity tickets cost 50 cents each. Proceeds go to benefit the Parent Association Activity Fund to sponsor future school activities.
  • Check out wares from six local artisans during the North End Arts Tour, which includes stops in Wedgwood, Ravenna, Phinney Ridge and Green Lake, but just skirting Maple Leaf. You can download a map of the tour, which takes place from 4-9 tonight, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

There also are plenty of performances taking place throughout Northeast Seattle:

  • Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” debuts this week at Seattle Public Theatre at the Bathhouse, 7312 W. GreenlakeDrive N., with performances at 7:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday. Its run continues through Dec. 24.
  • Seattle Music Theatre ends its run of “Chicago” this weekend, with performances at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday. And remember, just for reading Maple Leaf Life you can get your tickets at a buy-one-get-one-half-off discount by calling the box office at 206-363-2809 and mentioning the code Billy Flynn’s Blog Fee. The theater is located in Building 47 at Magnuson Park, 7120 62nd Ave. N.E.

And parents, don’t forget this is the weekend you can check out The Perkins School, which is holding an open house from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, for which we’d previously listed the wrong date. Your next chance won’t be until Jan. 23.

So, what did we forget? And what’s coming up? You can read about more of this wekeend’s events on The Maple Leafer, and please let us know if there is anything else you’d like us to add to the Events calendar.
